Jefferson County Agencies Come Together for National Public Lands Day Clean-up Efforts

“Let’s Doo It!” Campaign Leads the Way

August 30, 2017

On Saturday, September 30, 2017 the nation will celebrate the 24th annual National Public Lands Day, a volunteer effort aimed at preserving and protecting our public lands. This special day provides an opportunity to engage park visitors around a very important issue in their parks: dog waste and trash.

This effort fits into the “Let’s Doo It!” campaign that kicked off in 2016 and is led by Jeffco Open Space, the City of Lakewood, Foothills Park & Recreation District and Evergreen Park & Recreation District. This campaign promotes picking up and disposing of dog waste through collective action. The outreach related to “Let’s Doo It!” includes videos, social media messages, trailhead signs, dog waste bags, magnets on city vehicles and an online pledge to pick up dog waste.

Recently, the partners launched a “Let’s Doo It!” website, providing a place for other agencies to join the community effort, download resources and sign up for volunteer efforts.

Register to volunteer on National Public Lands Day at any of the following park locations, hosted by the associated land management agency.

Elk Meadow Park, Jeffco Open Space – Learn More and Register

“Lookin’ Out Your Front Door” song lyrics:

Just got to Crown Hill today, open the front door, oh boy!
Got to get out, take a walk by the lake
Conservation settin’ in, pretty soon we’re singin’

[CHORUS] Doo, doo, doo, lookin’ out your front door

There’s students cleaning your park, stooping and a’scooping
Look at all the happy creatures prancing in the park.
A pair of canine brothers waiting for their owner

[CHORUS]

Cormorants, red-winged blackbirds playing in the band
Won’t you do the doo and save the beautiful view?
Doin’ the doo
Wond’rous conservation provided by dog nation

[CHORUS]

Cormorants, red-winged blackbirds playing in the band
Won’t you do the doo and save the beautiful view?
Doin’ the doo
Don’t save it ‘til tomorrow, today we’ll cause no sorrow

[CHORUS]

Cleanin’ up our open space, then we’ll leave no trace!
Look at all the happy creatures prancing in the park
Don’t save it ‘til tomorrow, today we’ll cause no sorrow

[CHORUS]
